Beyoglu History
It was called Peran (Pera) Vineyards, which means opposite collar ties. Again at that time, Beyoğlu was outside the walls surrounding Galata. When Fatih Sultan Mehmet conquered Istanbul, he settled the people of the city, which he had brought from various parts of Anatolia, in different parts of Istanbul.
Beyoğlu, the favorite district of Istanbul, is also the district where many firsts have been experienced throughout history. While the first shipyard, the first bank and the first stadium were located in Beyoğlu, the first theater play was played here and the first tram set off from Beyoğlu. The history of the district as 'Beyoğlu', which includes the area called 'Pera' to describe the place where foreign merchants lived during the Byzantine period, dates back to ancient times.
